Country Charger Colour by Omar-Dogan Country Charger Colour by Omar-Dogan
(Aug 24 2009 Thanks for the Daily Deviation!)

Wow, this one took a lot of time!

So far, I think this is one of my favourite pieces I have ever done in my life.

I will most likely make a poster print of this to sell at the cons this year.

I'll repost the explanation from the pencil sketch description:

This is the pencil sketch that will be auctioned off at the upcoming Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo in April 2008. All the proceeds of all the pieces to be auctionned will go to charity for kids.

The theme is supposed to be someting to do with the west. The west that I chose was in Alberta, which has a similar arid climate to Texas, but Alberta also has mountains. Oil is also found in abundance in this province and as a result they have no state/provincial tax.

But rather than do another pic with guns and such, which everyone did last year i took a different approach.

One thing you find a lot of in Alberta is very well preserved old cars. Why? Well for one, in winter they use gravel opposed to salt to deal with snow. Salt is only really good till -10°c so once it goes down to -35°c then you just have to dump gravel on the snow to give it grip. My favourite muscle car is the 1970 Dodge Charger, yes the "Dukes of Hazzard" car (which was a 1969 and had slightly different bumper), it is just so badass.

One cute girl in cowboy hat and pretty dress, check. Prairie and some mountains, check.

Ok so whats with the AC plug in her hand? Well, I wanted to encourage an idea of going "green", but it doesn't mean it has to be dorky. So why not an electric muscle car, i am allowed to imagine. Afterall, there are electric trains, and other powerful vehicles. Maybe some mechanic will attempt to build one!

"GRNCHRGR" means to say "Green Charger". Yes the pun was intended. I guess it really would be a 'Charger' in this case! Electric car, charger, get it?

Wind turbines are in the BG to also encourage further other sources of energy. We have a giant one of these in Toronto by the lake. Wind is free, just like the sun, when I get a house i will totally have solar panels on the roof. Free energy is a good thing. Alberta has plenty of sun and wind.

I will be colouring this one, but the auctioned piece will be the pencil drawing. i will make a print of the colour version I am thinking.

Size: 28cm X 43cm (11" X 17")
BW: 2H pencil
Colours : Corel Photopaint 8 (1997)
Time to Draw: 4 hours total work rough to final linearts
Time to Colour: 1.5 days (Lots of clean up and details)

Here is the Original Lineart: [link]

NOTE: A limited edition con exclusive print of this will be available for only $20 CND/USD at these 2008 summer conventions:

Anime North, Toronto
Anime Expo, Los Angeles
SDCC, San Diego
Otakon, Baltimore
Comic Expo, Toronto
PAX, Seattle

Print run was limited to 50. 15 were sold at Calgary, meaning only 35 left!

You did a great job on this picture! Is there any way I could 'commission' you to change the license plate and buy a print from you? :)

Imagine taking a classic charger and putting 2 electric motors in the ass end so it drives correctly. Like a charger. And some batteries in the front.

Not fair though. Taking the sound away is like neutering a tiger.

It's not like there's not any lack of ability to make electric or hydrogen muscle cars, it's just that there's no demand for them, or at least not enough. The normal cars, which are cheaper to make, are already sky-high expensive and have little to no places to refuel in most areas. Doesn't help that, in the US, Obama cut the government's Hydrogen research funding and stopped projects related to alternate energy that weren't in favor of ethanol (blegh) early in his first term, so it's been impeded further.

What I mean to say is that there's no reason that we can't build them other than them having a small audience to cater to, thus larger companies have no reason to spend resources on something only a few people will buy. However, if someone were to make one custom and sell the design to the company or something like that...

Electric muscle car? Sorry, but what the hell is that, muscle cars should have PUSHROD V8 ENGINE with OVER 302 CUBIC OF DISPLACEMENT. If you want an electric car buy a volt or something but don't f*** up with my Charger. Nice drawing anyway.

Same here man, you can't replace petrol.

Just a little something for the tree huggers. Gotta be fair to all my fans.

Seeing a plug coming out of the front of an old muscle car with Alberta plates does not make me think "electric conversion", it makes me think "block heater."

This is awesome, and it is actually possible to have an old muscle car go electric hybrid. Not going to go into the details cause it would take to long to describe it.

Love the concept and the look of it all. Though i have to ask this. It is meant to be the R/T version or regular charger? Cause the regular charger didn't have the hidden lights like the R/T did.
