This is going to be a poster that i will sell this year at the conventions i go to. This piece is for the Calgary Comic Expo (2009) [link]
It is supposed to be a western piece, but i don't really care to follow the stereotypes too much that other people have. To me, Alberta means well preserved old cars cause they don't use salt in winter, Cowbow boots, sunny skies for the most part, and here in this picture i put some hoodoos. Last year it was mountains, but this year I draw my inspiration from Drumheller which has these odd shaped rock formations. The car is a 1973 Celica LB. In Alberta, cars do not have to have the front number plates. The asian-esque girl is to break the idea that all people living in the west have to be a certain race. In Canada, the great thing is that we have all races, and every race colour etc is as entitled to be Canadian as the next. So maybe mine will be a bit odd, but let the other artists in the book do the horses and guns if they like. The west was also about blazing new trails, so let's try something different. (Big edits , thanks for the advice guys. I lost a night sleep fixing things, but it was worth it!) Here is a close up on the face: [link] Here is the car on its own in different colour: [link] BW: All 2H and HB pencil on this one. Colours: Good Ole Corel Photopaint 8 Tablet: Old ass Wacom Saphire. |

This is great man. compositionally her position is a little bit confusing, it kind of makes her look like she is a giant. but the yummy background and lush colors really tie it all together for me. great job
