A chapter near completed

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 25, 2011, 7:26 PM
As of last week i have done the something that will be a first in over a decade and that is taking a second day off per week. Before this point i have been working 6 days a week, and only 4 years prior i was working 7 days a week from home. All this is to say that I am using my new found free itme to update my dA and actually take some tiome for a change and write something more than a note alerting people to a blogTV show.

Over the last ten years i have gone through so many huge changes in my life that if you knew me 10 years ago you would have to say that I am not the same person. Obviously everyone can say this, but in my case everything from religion, to job, to wife, and kids has been huge in my life.

And now we have yet another milestone: The Girl Book entitled "G7"

From start to finish this book has taken me one entire year plus two months. I had to entertain other jobs during the persiod but I must say this is by far the most important book i have worked on after Sakura Legends, and here's why:

This book is one of the only real chances I have been able to be free and just escape all the stereotypes i have had and start fresh. This book was not supposed to be the way it turned out: In the begininning it was supposed to be a simple book of pin ups and done in a simple style. What it ended up being was me trying to out do myself on every subsequent piece. For this reason and the freedom of choice to work on what I please, i learned more in the last year than the last 5 or even 6 years. I have learned so much about fashion and posing and I feel I could do another book like this and continue improving.

Now at first blush, you might think that this book is filled to the brim with smut and cheesecake. It's not, though there is some of thatin there too, its nothing more than what youve seen. This was one of the main issues I had working on this. At the time i had no extra work and i need to get some cash going  to feed the family and pay bills. My boss basically came up with this project to give me something to work on and thats exactly how it began. It was not my idea, though i turned it inot something other than what it was intended to be.

In a nutshell this book is an expose' of my learning process over the last year. My self inposed rules were this: all pieces are drawn in order of chapter and coloured in the same order. i am not allowed to go back and fix anything, even if i really want to. This means that you see all my mistakes and it is a very humbling experience.

The other unique thing about this book is that i did the entire colouring process on blogtv right infront of your very eyes. i may not have advertized each show, but over the course of the year i have found some very hardcore fans who will be rewarded heavily for their patronage.

This book will be coming out most likely in january 2012, and is a hallmark in my career. All i have to finish now is the commentary and the cover. All the art is done 7 girls X 9 chapters + 10 bonus group shots and more = over 100 new pieces of art , not including the linearts which would add more.

I do have to say that my students have helped me in an indirect way in that they learn so quick and it makes me want to learn and improve as well even though i am older than them by a decade. And of course thank you to the hardcore fans who have  supported me and  been there through the whole process and a major thank you to my boss formaking this happen. Without his faith in me , this would not have happened.

I will have more on it when the time comes, till then take care!

I really do thank you guys and I hope I have been of some use to you.

Asalaamu Alaikum = Peace be upon you!

Oh, and I can't wait to see that page with the easter egg to me on it :P Keep us thoroughly informed of the launch date, so I can pimp this book to everyone I know.

I've watched many of your blogTV shows. I've easily seen you work on over a dozen pieces, and each time you have inspired me, and motivated me to do even better. For I see your talent and skills grow and expand each show at a time. I am eagerly waiting for your book to be available for purchase. I will be one of the first in line! Count on it. ;)

Congratulations Omar! I'm beyond excited to finally see the final product of the book. Though I had to stop attending the blogTV shows about half way through, I can say that while you were learning plenty by doing the G7 girls, I also learned plenty just by watching you. If you hadn't taken the time to share your talent with all of us fans, I may not have learned the great techniques and talents that help me improve my art. So thank you Omar for being an extraordinary host to all your fans! You're an inspiration!

Unfortunately I only recently started attending the BlogTV events (the last 3 pieces) but I enjoyed every moment of it. In the time I spent there I learned that your a very down to earth guy who connects with his fans in whatever way possible. I'll admit I was a little afraid to join your more hardcore fan base but you and the others were actually very welcoming.
I've only seen about 10 or 12 of the pieces in "G7" and I'm already excited to crack open the book when I get my hands on it day one. You have been a great inspiration to me not only as an artist but as person in general (also you taught me more about Canadian currency lol).
Here is to another great year of Omar Dogan, a brilliant artist who is still finding ways to improve.
