A man and his dog.

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 3, 2010, 12:01 PM
Normally i don't do this sort of thing, and there are scams abound for real, but the sincerity of this fan seems like it's believable.

I'll let you decide, but read his note and at least give him a kind word if anything. Hope this helps pal!

IMAGINeye said the following:

How have you been?  I read you had a second child, congrats!  We talked a couple of times years ago and I have been a watcher ever since.  So even though we are basically strangers I'm writing because I need your help...

I have a 8 yr old English Bulldog named Tank.  Raised him since he was 3 months old and we have been the best of friends ever since.  Well he has fallen very ill...tumors, breathing problems, and a skin disease.  It's so much, but there is a tiny light of hope.  The doctor said if I could come up with $1500 dollars :faint: that would be enough to save him and extend his life greatly.  While it does sound like a lot of money I did the math. That if only 300 people donated just $5 dollars that goal could easily be obtained!

I need your help to spread the word.  As shallow as it sounds far more people read your journal than they do mine...normally I'm one who could care less about page views etc.  But in this case it could actually help and do some good!  I wrote about all of this and posted a pic of Tank's tumor on my journal to show people what is going on.  If you could write about it, let your watchers know, you have no idea just how grateful I would be.  I'm also open to any other ideas or suggestions.  Typically I would be able to have the funds myself.  But seeing I got let go from Activision due to downsizing times have been tough.  But I would do anything to help Tank get better, even toss my silly pride out the window.  Either way thanks for your time Omar...I hope you have a good day :manhug:

~Ryann

I really do thank you guys and I hope I have been of some use to you.

Asalaamu Alaikum = Peace be upon you!

Were I in a better position myself, I would send $5 at least. I've been through many a pet death, and it is saddening. However, I don't even have a dollar to my name, seeing as I can't seem to find a job (Michigan sucks) and I can barely afford to buy groceries with what money I do acquire.

Unfortunately I can't see myself giving to this particular cause, if it were his mom or father , brother sister, maybe. This is going to sound mean, but sometimes we have to accept that death is part of the natural process. I'm sure tankster is an important part of his family, but maybe it is his time to go, now this may sound callous and it is not meant to be, but $1500 is alot of money for an operation. I think he should get a second opinion.

I'm sorry for your trouble - I wish I could help.... but alas I too am poor. You could set up a donation pool at your deviant page.

It sounds like a scam to me... My mom has a friend who has had all kinds of special operations done on her dog and even the total amount doesn't come to $1500. It's possible it's real, but honestly I'm not inclined to believe anything over the internet... if it was a friend, or even a friend of a friend, I would be much more likely to help.
If this is a legitimate thing, I would encourage IMAGINeye to try this by word of mouth rather than the internet... It's less about the trustworthiness of the individual and more that you just can't trust ANYTHING on the internet.

i know this sounds cold but its a dog and im not incline to believe things on the net. Sorry but it sounds like this dude just needs to get a second job or sell some of his possessions or something like that as apposed to begging on the internet. Again i know it sounds cruel but its the web and there are people who are willing to scam you, you never really know who's on the other side of the screen and what there true intentions are when it comes to this type of thing. Yeah even though its 5 bucks its more of the principle of the thing. Either way best of luck to you mate.

I know...and I know I would come across people that would think these things. I hold no ill will and nothing but understanding. It sucks that people out there on the internet have caused us to grow cynical towards those asking for help, praying on our goodwill. I have sold everything I can, I have knocked on all the animal donation doors possible; getting the cold shoulder that my dog is an older dog and so thus doesn't deserve donations when it can be used towards the younger ones. Sound logic that befalls against deaf ears while I hear my dog whimper.

I have never begged for anything in my life and all I have known is hard work. I carried my family at the young age of 14 when no Dad was around. I know what hard work is and what it looks like. Then you might imagine the pride I'm willing to throw out the window to beg on the internet or even on the streets for the best friend I love. As I also mentioned, I am more than willing to accept any and all other suggestions if a small donation isn't possible. I will try anything and go anywhere...because if I don't try then I will always wonder if Tank's life was cut short due to my lack of finances. And that would cut me to the core.

You want proof to who I am? I'm a google search away...having an extra "N" in my name thankfully puts me at the top of the lists. Ryann Weller, age 29, and I live at 5452 Kinston Ave., Culver City, CA, 90230. Worked at Activision, more to the point Treyarch on the next Call of Duty game "Black Ops" until I was downsized (I was a resource artist mainly for the Environment Team). You can confirm all of this at my LinkedIn page.

I say all of this with a light heart as I do understand the skepticism. :handshake:

but thats what makes things so tricky and hard to believe. Id try to do the same for my pet but its the internet and it just makes thing harder to believe. You are a very talented guy going from what you have in you gallery, you could offer commissions to try and raise a bit more or something.

Well thank you...and I would to (do commissions). Unfortunately all the art equipment I had was the last thing to be sold to help pay for my medical bills due to me being sick with Pneumonia. *sigh* I'm going to try to use the nearby art college computer lab to work on some things. But I do know there is no way I'm going to get that kind of money together on my own in two weeks through commissions. Hence the pride swallowing and relying on the kindness of strangers. In the mean time though I'm not sitting on my hands...I'm still making phone calls, seeing if there are any other charities that will help, calling in favors, I did go out and beg in front of my local grocery store (the most humbling experience I have ever had), all the while looking for work everywhere I possibly can find it.

wow.... i dont know what to say. normally id call this a scam, but he did post images of your dog and himself, he proved he has a tumor, and hes simply asking for five dollars, so either this is the best scam ive seen or its genuine. either way ill talk to some people who might be able to spare some cash^^

Phew... just some hours ago, I found out that my pitbull has a tumor, and he'll most likely develop it again, and faster. Chances of him to fully recover and continue a healthy life after this are close to zero, so I can totally relate to this man. I'll donate the 5 bucks right now.

What else do you need for me? If you look at my profile I have been an upstanding artist here on DA for over 3 years. If you look through my journals (I haven't deleted one since I joined) you can see my entire life splayed out on your electronic screen. I have even started a couple of charities of my own. You just name it...tell me what it is you need to look past the vast amount of internet hocus-pocus and see a man that desperately wants his best friend to live.

I admit after a rummage through your page a bit you seem legitimate, at least as a person. But in saying that, you can't be too careful online. And you did ask, so here is some thoughts.

So you seem to be who you say you are. But is the dog real? Is it really yours? as more 'evidence' I'd like to see a picture of you with the dog that has been taken very recently. Clearly recently, like last day or two.

So if you're okay and it appears to be your dog, the next thing would be the money. How do we know that's where the money is actually going? There is no doubt the dog has probelms, certainly... and you seem sincere when you talk about him. Even so, more evidence won't hurt. Could we see a bill or something from the vet/hospital that shows the extimated expenses for the dog's treatment as coming to the amount you claim?

Do you have any long time dA users who would vouch for you?

A side note; about a week ago I lost one of my special pets of seven years, and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it. I'm still upset about that, it's so very sad. I'm sure you could imagine. I guess in some small way I I'm jealous that you've at least got something you can do to properly help yours live longer and healthier. Assuming you are legit.

Alright...I'll do you one better, this is my fiance's Facebook page. Where she has a ton of pictures with Tank, a few with myself, and showing support for Tank.

I put a call into the vet hospital and they are going to put together a complete list of things and e-mail me the official request; Tests, surgery, meds, and the follow up tests/meds/visits. I should have that in my possession within a couple of hours.

As for users to vouch...just look at any of my friends or the people who comment in my journal. Person I have known the longest and sent me the very first "hiya" message would be :iconyzarc:

Just a small problem with that- what about people sho don't have a facebook page who want to check it out and can't because they get blocked?

Good, that sounds very promising. It all counts.

Hmmm, so there isn't some good friend(s) on here you could point out?

I wouldn't get worked up man, even if you were lying (and I'm not saying you are) it's five dollars. The fact someone could actually just go "I dunno....he could be lying. Best save this whole five dollars. Never know when I might need it." is sort of indicative of their personality anyway as far as charity goes. Just don't sweat it and move on.
