Black Friday

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 27, 2010, 4:28 PM
I went down to NJ for the passed few days and returned this morning at 4 after a long 8 hour drive.

Black Friday is a pseudo-holiday that seems to be increasingly starting on Thursdays, now called 'Grey Thursdays'. I went with my Bro in Law to Toys R Us at 10pm on the Thursday, and though it was like 3°c / 39°F, like clock work cars rolled into the parking lot as if on cue, and people with buggies formed a line at least 1 km long.

SO they just let the doors open at the Toys R us and people fly in and thats it right? Not when you have a fire marshal there. So 20 people at a time went in while the line just continued to grow.

In Canada its a totally different story, we have something called Boxing day on the 26th of December which is an actual statutory holiday and things are on sale at huge discounts after X mas.

ANy body have a funny Black Friday story, plug below:

On another note:

Commission progress:

So far i am over halfway through all of them, I am looking to have it completed this week.  If I have finished yours you have been notified, I will be sending all the packages out at the same time.

It looks like i will be opening for commissions tentatively in the second week of December. I will have some new pricings and some promotions as well.

I really do thank you guys and I hope I have been of some use to you.

Asalaamu Alaikum = Peace be upon you!

Noooo! Don't remind me of boxing day too soon! It's a horrible day for us cashier ;3;
There's just so much people, so much angry people that want all the same damn thing and are surprised when we say there are none left when it's almost time to close the store...

If you don't mind me asking about the commissions, is it only limited to Capcom, anime, and video game characters?

I do OC's as well, with some limitations as to content.

All these details and more will be made available soon.

Boxing Day is an excuse to return all the Christmas gifts you didn't want, and get the stuff you want.

I think most places have Boxing Day sales rather than Black Friday ones... Although, over here in the UK our local strand of Amazon was running a five-day Black Friday special... which had to be run past me a few times, and I still don't get it.

Of course, being in the the UK, the first time I heard of Black Friday I thought it was similar to/the same thing as Black Wednesday aka one of the worst days in recent history for the British economy, with sterling getting devalued, losing about 3.3bn and being a strong motivator for the opposing party to gain popularity and then the Parliament.

So I was rather confused. Especially when it started coming up every year. ^^;

I'd prefer Black Friday over Boxing Day. At least you can do your Christmas shopping ahead of time and get some discounts for the people you are shopping for. I guess it is rather smart for Canadian retailers to have Boxing Day instead, because everybody has already spent their money on Christmas gifts already at full price.

No funny stories... but I am waiting to hear about the hilarity at the shopping malls in the mad rush to get the "most awesomest thing evar!"...whatever that happens to be this year.

...which usually doesn't hit until about a week or so before Christmas when that "most awesomest thing evar" hits eBay for 200%-500% of it's retail value and there are riots over dwindling supplies.
