I started this book August 5 2010, well at least that was when I did the first complete rough sketches of the characters. I just finished the last piece of art about half and hour ago of typing this making it finished November 17 2011. 16 months in all, though I did not work consistently on it since there were other projects that interrupted. All the text is done, all the editting is done, and all the art is done.

Now what?

I actually already miss working on the book. I have sunk so much time and effort into it for the sake of getting better. In the beginning it was a job to get me some cash, but then after a while I tried to see how much I could learn off of it. I could have finished the book several months ago, but I just wanted to add in more art for fun even though I wasn't getting extra pay for it. Those characters now have all their own histories and in large part it was from the BlogTV watchers who watch the whole book get coloured up.

Seriously big big BIG thanks to all the Blogtv watchers who kept me company and listened to all of my rantangenting (Rants and/or/on tangents). So much of my professional career has been spent alone in my office once we stopped having the UDON main office / studio. Once I got married it was better, and then when I had kids it was not possible for me to work at home for obvious reasons. I then moved to my Mississauga office down the street and was there for almost two years, but in complete isolation until I tried BlogTV.

This is not an ad for BTV, but much like dA it opened a new horizon for me and basically brought the con experience i like so much  into my office when I wanted it. I started doing that a year ago and it became an addiction. Having someone to vent your ideas and laugh with made work go faster and made it a lot more fun. Also they often times helped me with my work spotting mistakes only a fresh set of eyes could.

They became my friends and accepted me for who I was. When I said that I had to pray and take a break, they didn't hack on me or make fun of my beliefs. Yeah, I do have tough skin and can take it, but its also nice not to have to. I also think I introduced a good lot of people to drum and bass as well.

The main reason I could always broadcast is because the girl book is my property so its is up to me if and when i want to show it. With SF stuff or NDA stuff I can't obviously. With commissions I could and still do and it adds to the experience as well.

SO my reward to them is that I let them have first crack at commissions and the ones who asked for some of the GirlSeven characters without my prompting got those commissions put into the actual book so that they own a piece of it. It seemed the best thing I could do and my thanks to them. I have a heap of non G7 commissions to do, and once they are done, I will open to dA as well. That is my thanks to them for keeping me company and cheer me on  on an almost daily basis. You had to be there to get in on the action, it was only open for a day.

When all their commissions are done I will open to public, and I think that will be in December some time, I will repost the prices and special characters I will be having a sale on!

The Girl book for me was a fluke in the beginning, but it also has spoiled me too. Now I am so used to doing what I like I have no desire for other work. Because I am a professor now, I can work on my own stuff and afford to do so. All the SF books I did I often did on my own and the speed I had to work at meant I was working 6 - 7 days a week which is unfair to myself , and my family as well. Seeing a stressed out husband and father is not fun and it takes its toll on you. I don't think I can go back to those days anymore.

I will be 35 next month and its time for change. This Girl book made me realize many things that my watchers can attest to who know me better than some of my close friends.  I will be doing commissions this afternoon, so check in and become part of my extended net family.

I'm glad to have actually caught you doing one or two of these. It's a great pleasure watching you do your magic as it happened. Congrats on the book and I hope the print turns out great.
