I was asked:

Q:Even if we don't make the big time like you guys, do you still encourage artists to draw for fun/ never give up?

A: The questioner has answered their own question within the question. But if it isn't too clear as to what I'm saying, i will put it another way:

You should not care whether or not i encourage you, nor should you be consumed with finding a 'big guy' to follow. I didn't think ever that i would be working on anything with a Capcom logo affixed to it that is offical (As official as you can get without working in Capcom Japan). I have met  many of my hero artists and many other artists i respect as well, and once again i never intended to ever meet them.

The point is that while my personal goal was to become a better artist, to become a 'big guy' in the industry which i do not feel i am, was not my goal. In fact, I would almost say that if that is your goal the journey will be all the more harder. The reason why that might be is because you are trying to make yourself marketable to the people whom you want to be hired by which might be a lie to yourself.

In a nut shell, i would say that your love of drawing is enough of a reason to continue, though if you get hired for it , be prepared to not always have the freedom and therefore not always have the love you had for art when it was a hobby. Again and again i say if you want to be an artist, do it as a hobby you will have more freedom/fun, if you want it as a career, you become talent-for-hire and the two are not the same no matter what anyone tells you. The proof is simple: in one case you are in full control, in the other someone can tell you it's wrong and have you to fix/change it as they are paying and have the right to demand so.

Becoming a 'big guy' is a relative thing and not something i preoccupy myself with. It almost has a semblance of clout or bragging rights and I don't feel that I have that at all. Many of you think i am in a high position, but i still very honestly consider myself a student at best and i struggle very hard to improve. Anything you see in my gallery i was trying my hardest at the time.

Yes i get paid to do what i do, yes i have choices of projects to work on, but those things don't make me think for one second i have reached my potential. So basically i am in the same boat as you, even after 10 years in the industry which is a drop in the bucket, i still feel i have huge tracts of artistic lessons and trials to compass as an artist with or without professional status.

If you want to give up, go right ahead we have plenty to replace you, if you need a pat on your back to continue then here you go 'good work, I hope you improve a lot this year! (sincerely)'

Career-wise if you're struggling hard then remember: Never doubt the hardworker, they always kick the show-boater and slacker in the end because they know how to work and never give up. Be consistant, persistant and reliable.

I really do thank you guys and I hope I have been of some use to you.

Asalaamu Alaikum = Peace be upon you!

I like this, this.... This is deeply true; I agree.
